A CALL TO ACTION!

Hello and greetings from Toronto.
I would like to bring to your attention that Sparwood BC City Council recently passed a motion to support the public inquiry into the Vancouver Police Dept. handling of the missing and murdered sex trade workers.
The Jardine's live in Sparwood BC.
The original investigations were at the least shabby and needs to be addressed. It is time that society realize that these women were more than drug addicted prostitutes. They were each someone's child, someone's sister, many were someone's mother. It saddens me to realize that society still lacks understanding and compassion towards those who struggle with the disease of addiction which too often leads them down paths they would never otherwise choose. It is no secret that if these were middle class white women Vancouver Police Dept would have acted faster and more professionally. One was too many, 63+ outrageous!
It is time for society to realize that given appropriate supports there is hope. We all deserve to be treated with respect and to be protected by those who are sworn in to protect us. When a crime is committed against us, regardless of WHO we are, we deserve the assurance that our police are actively investigating. Vancouver Police Dept. surely failed in this matter.
If it were not for the likes of Deb and Ivan Jardine, and a few others, making public what happened to their daughters, this situation in Vancouver might still be swept under the rug.
This cannot be allowed to happen again.
Failure to have a public inquiry, in my opinion, would not be in society's best interest.
Angela Jardine was born in Sudbury ON. Her family lived there for most of her young life. I wrote to Sudbury City Council to remember this family by taking direct action and supporting the inquiry.
How ironic that Angela Jardine, who suffered abuse from others her entire life, due to her disability, would appear now to reach out from her grave to help educate.
I would encourage everynoe to write to your City Council to address too, the need for respite care for family members and caregivers for children liketo urge them to also support this public inquiry. It could be YOUR child who vanishes next.
Each person's voice is important in making sure our City Council's speak up for what we believe in. One person pushing can't make a mountain move but all people pushing can move mountains together. LETS ALL DO OUR PART IN MAKING SURE THIS ATROCITY NEVER REPEATS ITSELF.
Respectfully

FUNDRAISER FOR THE WOMENS MEMORIAL QUILT ANNOUNCEMENT

Vanished Voices - NEVER AGAIN! Project is proud to be a participant in the V-Day Worldwide/College Campaign. We have been granted the rights for a benefit production of Eve Ensler’s award-winning play, "The Vagina Monologues," to raise money and awareness for local organizations that work to stop violence against women and girls.

In 2002, V-Day happened in 800 venues around the world. Celebrations were held in an Anglican Church in Nova Scotia, a Maasai village in Kenya, a Lakota reservation in South Dakota, a stadium in Manila and a synagogue in Great Britain. This year V-Day expects to fill the halls and theaters of many more cities and towns around the world, spreading the hope of a violence-free world for women and girls.

In 2003 Vanished Voices-NEVER AGAIN! Project will be one of hundreds - maybe even thousands - of events around the world channeling their creative energy into making a difference as part of the V-Day Worldwide/College Campaign. It is our intention to make V-Day Vanished Voices-NEVER AGAIN! Project a huge success. This will be possible, in large part, through the assistance and generosity of sponsors.

Part of what makes this event so special is the opportunities it offers to businesses in local communities - to participate in this global movement, to celebrate and honor the women and girls in your life and community, to be part of a collective voice, a voice that refuses to be ignored, a voice that says NO to violence against women and girls.

The money raised from this event will go towards costs of the Women's Memorial Quilt which will be a travelling memorial in honour of the estimated 500 FirstNations women who are missing or were murdered in Canada over the past 20 years. This quilt will travel to various communites educating our people on nthis issue. It will be accompanied by members of Vanished Voices-NEVER AGAIN! Project who will research and attend with information on services available in the area of each community visited.

We are in need of THREE First Nations women who are willing to donate their time to play the part of the actresses in our production of Vagina Monologues Vanished Voices - NEVER AGAIN! Project's production. It will be a one night show.

The date for this event is not yet set as details are still being worked out.

Please pass this information on and direct any interested woman to contact us at

BE SURE TO RETURN TO THIS PAGE ON A REGULAR BASIS FOR UPDATED INFORMATION REGARDING THIS EVENT.
